RIGHT NOW WE LOVE (APRIL)

The Museum of Natural History, NYC
I think its true to say that the longer you spend in a city, the less you find time to really appreciate its key cultural attractions. I cant remember the last time I visited Central Park or the Humanities & Social Sciences Library on 42nd Street, the Metropolitan Museum or the Rockefeller Centre.
With this in mind I took the opportunity of a visit from relatives recently to spend a day in the Museum of Natural History on 79th Street. This is probably my all time favorate place in the city.
As usual the highlight of my visit were the habitat dioramas that can be found throughout the different halls - not so much for the animals (though these are cool) but for the environments they are placed within. Peering into these its sometimes hard to believe that everything you see has been crafted by hand - right down to the leaves on the trees (once made with wax but now formed from plastic and hand painted). Amazing and a little creepy at the same time.
I have begun work on my own creepy diorama of the No.6 store room - with every fragment of cloth recreated out of wood and nail clippings.
