Your daily expression to the world does start with how you present yourself visually. Understated or overstated, either way it says something. Having grown up in an expressive Bohemian community in Montreal and going to an alternative art school where non-conforming was the norm, I have always had a thread through of love of one of a kind, unique pieces.
Of course, vintage and handmade has been my go to, but then throughout the decades of presenting myself, both in my personal life and in my professional public life, I get excited when I find well-made new clothes that resonate with my style.
I have been wearing clogs since I was a kid. In the 90s when I was in Hole, there was an amazing little shop in Hollywood called “the clog master” run by an eccentric German woman who custom built the clogs around your foot. I still have some of those in my collection, but she has been gone for well over a decade. So I explore all new clog makers and I can’t live without them. They are my daily wear - comfortable, practical, and a statement of timeless style rooted in old European cultures.
Design traditions from “other times” is another recurring theme for my expression. Vintage items, or inspired by what a woman in another decade or century ago would’ve worn.
